The Legendary 12
Demon of BlackWood
For decades the areas surrounding the The Black Forest were plagued by what many called “The Demon of BlackWood.” The demon was colossal, larger than many villages, and savage beyond even the most feral beast. The demon was said to have been born of the Black Forest, sprung from some ancient evil. As such, it never roamed far from the edges of the woods.
The demon appeared only when the moon was empty, when the night was at its darkest. Always it attacked where the most damage could be dealt, destroying towns and farms with abandon. A few heroes tried to combat the demon, but its size and power put it beyond their efforts. As its reign of destruction continued, the terrible news spread through Othyr. Eventually, King Abbas was forced to deal with the threat, no matter the cost.
A large army, led by Abbas and filled with strong warriors and skilled mages marched towards the Black Forest. They finally found their foe at Citadel, where the final confrontation with the BlackWood Demon took place. The army managed to stop the demon before he completely ravaged Citadel, and saved hundreds of lives in the process. The battle was short- mages of the Sanctum cast spells on the demon to make it susceptible to the blades of the swordsmen. The thousands of elite warriors made short work of the BlackWood. Defeated, the Demon disappeared before the death blow could be dealt.
Ever since, Citadel and the other provinces around the Black Forest have always lived in superstition that the demon might return, and many of the regions have in fact never recovered. Citadel, for instance, was never fully rebuilt and was instead abandoned.
