Griffons

Griffons are powerful monsters seeped deep in lore. They possess both the characteristics of lions and eagles. From nose to tail, an adult griffon can measure as much as 15 feet and weighs up to 600 pounds. A pair of golden wings emerge from the creature’s back and span 25 feet or more. Children around Othyr hear tales of these terrifying monsters and only the most powerful of heroes have slain one of these beasts. King Relndor has the head of a Griffon mounted above his mantel in his private quarters, as his close nobles will attest to. He has said it is a prize of his many hunting expeditions, and that he was largely responsible for the kill. Many disregard this as a embellishment, and that Relndor’s guard was largely helpful in the skirmish. Other notable figures said to single-handedly slay a Griffon include Relndor’s father, King Abbas, the infamous High Council Member Jelkin, and a past dwarf warrior known only as Grimfist. It is noted in various history books that the Orcs have traditionally hunted Griffons as part of a right of initiation included in the induction of a new tribal chieftain. Due to the grandeur associated with their defeat and the richness of their hides, Griffons are a rare species. The most common places to find Griffons include the deep trenches of The Veil as well as the eastern Umbala Jungle.
