Oracles

The Oracles play an important part in the workings of Othyr. They have no true legal power, but their predictions are usually correct, and therefore Kings and Queens of the nation pay much attention to the omens and signs these men and women see. There are only a handful of Oracles in Othyr at any given time, true magical humans, elves, or dwarves that can tell the future. Nikolai Whiteshield is one example of such a specimen, although he was never declared a Oracle. Oracles can be named by city councils. This is only a nomination, and a true Oracle is not declared until either a King or Queen approves him/her, or 2/5ths of the Councils agree. Once an Oracle is official he is inducted into the Mage’s Sanctum and moved to live in Lastlight. While not truly mage’s, Oracles do have divine powers and are regulated by the Sanctum so that their powers may be used to the good of Othyr. Oracles have no true schedule or requirements, but when they are struck with a vision their words are taken with great seriousness and taken to the reigning King and Queen immediately by high-level Sanctum members. The ShadowHunt is rumored to have started based on the prediction of an Oracle, one who said that a second Blood War would start if the Orcs were not dealt with.
